Spring Sandals

I’ve mentioned these already, but I must emphasize that these are a must for spring style! I finally got to try them on and they are even cuter in person.  Excellent craftsmanship, maximum comfort, and great flair for any warm weather look.

The Neutral Shoe

Neutral shoes are a trend again this season but we hope they last a while.  The leg lengthening is serious stuff and everyone besides Gisele could use it.   Here are some top picks:
1.  Boutique 9 - Dulal Knotted Sandal: Sexy and sophisticated for any night out

2.  KORS Michael Kors - Vail Peep Toe Wedges:  Wedges are back this season and are a comfy alternative to the super skinny stiletto.  These  peep toe dorsay wedges are great in black too!

Update:  LW purchased these over the weekend - they are to.die.for.  So comfortable, the patent is soft, and the color (not adequately captured by this photo) is gorgeous.  This shoe is very flattering to your foot and leg and looked awesome with the bright purple/cobalt dress I tried them on with.  This is a must get for summer.

3.  Tory Burch - Eddie Naplak in Royal Tan:  Our love for Lanvin flats is still thriving but Tory Burch has come up with an alternative that don’t include her symbol flat smack in the front of the shoe.  We picture these with black skinnies…loving the color contrast.

5. Jean Michel Cazabat - Romy in Taupe Snakeskin - I love the texture on these and while they are a bit pricy, I swear by their comfort and I am not one who can wear 4” pumps too often…Look for this brand on Gilt!

A more affordable alternative are the Calvin Klein Whinnie Pump Driftwood Fish Skin:

6.  Boutique 9 - Dejana 2 Taffeta Pumps:   A great alternative to the $775 Maison Martin Margiela Twist Front Suede Sandals we’d all die for.

Wednesday Sales!

A quick “run” through the new sales of three of PP’s favorite stores, Saks, Neimans, & Cusp, this morning resulted in the following highlights (hopefully it’s all still there!):

1.  Tory Burch Edie Naplak Flat - $119 (was $195)

These basic patent flats (sans the huge logo in the front) are available in tan, gray and black.  Cute for your commute to/from work or anytime you want a neutral flat.

Available at Cusp

2.  Rebecca Taylor Simple Tie Waist Shirt Dress - $234 (was $350)

We highlighted this dress in one of our first Pretty Polished posts but we also added on that we hated the price tag.  Still a bit expensive but more manageable and a great

Available at Neiman Marcus and Saks

3.  Diane Von Furstenberg Brisa Wrap Dress - $195 (was $325)

Anytime a wrap dress goes on sale, grab it immediately!  We love the bright and bold stripes on this one.  The colored tights are a bit much with the print but we’re imagining this with a bare leg for summer.  Steal this while it’s still around!

Available at Cusp

4.  Milly Audrey Mock Neck Top - $123 (was $185)

WH owns this lightweight sweater and wears it non stop to work.  With a pencil skirt, this is cut in such a flattering way that just lays against your curves.  Add a cardigan for when you’re cold or go without for spring/fall, a basic black sweater top can never go wrong.

Available at Neiman Marcus or Cusp (for $111)

5.  Tibi Raindrop Print Shiftdress - $178 (was $298)

The Tibi silk shift dress is a classic from their collections and this one is no different.  This can be paired with tights and boots for winter or bare legged for summer. This print is so fun and we love all of the colors!

Available at Cusp

6.  Tibi One Shoulder Blouson Dress - $250 (was $385)

The original price of thi one made it a dealbreaker but this bright green summer fun party dress’ hemline is flattering to the leg; this dress would be perfect for a night out.

Available at Cusp

7.  Vince Checkerboard Sweater - $157 (was $237)

Back when I was living in cold Chicago, I took full advantage of end of winter sales to buy these comfy Vince sweaters. I love them and there is nothing softer or more comfy than leggings paired with one of these.  This also comes in gray (available at Cusp or Neimans)

Blue available at Neiman Marcus

8.  DVF Boxie Shorts - $78 (were $185)

If you can pull off these shorts, they are too freaking cute. We love the bold stripes (the vertical will help slim the leg) but paired with a black blousy top and heels, these are a fantastic addition to your going out collection.

Available at Saks

9.  Milly Danielle Ruffle Dress - $269 (was $385)

I’ve had my eye on this for a while simply because of the ruffle neck of this dress; wear your hair up in a poofy bun for quite the statement.  The belt helps define your waist and the navy is perfect.  This also comes in coral for those of you lucky enough to have a tan!

Available at Saks

10.  Juicy Couture Printed Shift Dress - $109 (was $158)

An affordable way to get in on the ikat trend. We love how easy this dress is.  Throw it on with a skinny black basic belt (a stretchy one would be nice) and some black strappy sandals and you’re good to go.  We all need one of these in our closets.

Available at Saks

11. Jay Godfrey Rope Belted Jersey Dress - $144 (was $240)

Another simple and easy dress for wherever you need to go. We hate the belt that it comes with but that’s not a reason to dismiss this basic navy piece as you can substitute a number of different color and style belts with this dress.  The jersey looks super comfy and if you’re not a fan of the way pockets lay on dresses like this (which I am not) simply take it to a tailor and ask them to sew them up for you.  Flat sandals for day or heels for night…this can take you from both in a pinch.

Available at Saks

12.  Marc by Marc Jacobs Parker Twill Coat- $394 (was $698)

Google Analytics tells us we have readers tuning in from Alaska, so this sale find is for you! I am a huge fan of Marc Jacobs coats…I have a version of this coat from a few seasons ago and I am obsessed with my hot pink MJ trench coat that I wear to death come spring. The ribbed sweater bottom part of the sleeve keeps your hands snow-free and it is super warm!

Available at Neiman Marcus

Another Neutral Shoe

My sister recently purchased this Cole Haan “Mariela” peep toe pump at bloomingdales - talk about a sexy shoe!  Never mind the fact that these cost her a week’s wage at her new job, her legs and summer wardrobe are most grateful for the collection addition.  Plus these have the Nike air soles so they are super comfortable.

Sign up to receive Bloomingdales’ emails and you’ll receive a 15% off coupon to put toward these beauts.

Request: Bridesmaid Shoes

So I have to find shoes for my dress for an upcoming wedding and they have to be silver heels. I want to get nice shoes that I’ll actually wear again, but I don’t know what to get. I love your blog and I thought maybe you could help.

Hi there!  We would love to help.  Thank you for reading and loving Pretty Polished!  You are our first message request via tumblr so we are quite excited. We assume you’re in this wedding and erred on the more conservative shoe side, but if we missed the mark, let us know and we’re happy to provide more options!

Kate Spade Maribet Silver Snake Print

A very classic, sweet sandal.  These were the bridesmaid shoes for a wedding that WH was in.

Kate Spade Charm
Kate Spade

These might be too much of a “statement” shoe for a bridesmaid outfit, but if you have a particularly free spirited bride, these are quite fun.

KORS Michael Kors Sasha Sandal
Pewter are at Shopbop
Metallic Mix are at Michael Kors

These are a bit more on the trendy side but I think you’d wear them long past the wedding.

Badgley Mischka Humbee II

If you like the look and feel of a Jimmy Choo pump, but not the price, these Badgley Mischka’s are a good substitute.

Ivanka Trump Doublet
On sale for $100

These also look like the classic Jimmy Choo sandal, minus the price tag.

If you want to splurge, we think Jimmy Choo’s are the best option for silver.  Their silver, rather metallic leather in general, is pretty much unbeatable. Plus you’ll have these for years.  Here’s a pretty pair of slingbacks on Bluefly

And here is a pair of platform pumps at Nordstrom:

Jimmy Choo Crown Pump

Jimmy Choo D’Orsay Pumps

These are our favorite splurge.  LW got these as a gift and can testify to 1) their beauty and 2) their comfort.  It was probably the first wedding where the shoes did NOT come off on the ride home.  These are not available online at Saks anymore, but if you call around to the stores I know they are still carrying them.  Mine came from Troy, MI.  (Available in silver and gold so be sure to specify the color).

Jimmy Choo also makes a variety of strappy sandals in silver if you are wanting something even more delicate.

Tumblr Request: Easter Sunday

Hi PP ladies! Another day, another request. I’m celebrating Easter with the boyf’s family, and am planning to wear this cute dress I bought on F&F at Ann Taylor. Probably with a cardigan and wedges (no tights). Thoughts? Too Casual? Accessory Ideas?

PS - I’ve met the fam before…so this isn’t some huge occasion. But I dont want to look like a slob either…

Hello!  Thank you for the question!  That looks like a perfectly appropriate dress for Easter Sunday.  It is conservative and respectful and will work well for whatever activities you all have planned.  First things first, we suggest replacing the cloth belt with something more bold like the ones listed below:

Available at Cusp

Anthropologie Backbone belt

Rag & Bone

Linea Pelle
On sale at Zappos for $103

Stretch Tulip Belt

The great thing about any of these belts is that you can wear them with so much.  We each have a couple of staple brown belts that we put over literally everything.  If I don’t like how something fits I always try my go-to belt over it before ruling it out.

As for shoes, a wedge is great.  Especially since this dress hits right at the knee and flairs out, you’ll need something clean on your foot.

Elizabeth and James makes a cute “Prim” wedge

Available at Nordstrom and Shopbop

As for other accessories, we think stacking a mix of bracelets together would look cute on your arm.

Kate Middleton’s cute shoes

Kate Middleton has inspired me to want some espadrille wedges…which I wasn’t a fan of before but they’re a great option for when you want to wear something to lengthen your leg and want to be comfortable as well (a perfect option for the day after the Wedding Heard ‘Round the World worn with a Zara pleated dress).  Hers are from L.K. Bennett but sadly are no longer available.  I’m sure more will be coming out soon after The Dutchess has started this trend but here are a few to get you going…

Lanvin Espadrille Wedge - $550

These are the perfect imitators of Kate’s sleek yet comfortable look.  We love the patent and the espadrille is a darker color which understates them just a touch.  (Steve Madden  makes a sort of similar option with a crazy platform but a much lower price -$90- if you’re so inclined)

Available at Nordstrom or Barneys (also in coral or nude)

Sam Edelman Randall - $130

The neutral fabric with the black patent cap toe spruces this up a bit and the espadrille isn’t crazy high to keep you from looking like an 8th grader.

Available at Bloomingdales or Piperlime (with a tan cap toe option as well)

Dolce Vita Jollen - $130

The slingback adds a flirty look and the platform adds some serious height but I like the suede contrast to the braided rope.  (Jimmy Choo makes a similar option in leather for about 3x the price)

Available at Nordstrom or Footnotes

Toms Canvas Wedge - $68.95

The casual take on this is pretty cute actually.  I am not a huge Toms person but these might be a great option for a day wedge!

Exclusive to Nordstrom

Michael Kors Upland - $185

Cute open toe criss-cross option in a black suede. These also come in patent but the muted suede is a softer look.

Available at Zappos
